‘Willy Wonka’ stars share why Gene Wilder thought he was a brat

“Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory” premiered 50 years ago on June 30, 1971 and gained a cult following in the years following.

The film has become such a phenomenon that it was registered in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress for being deemed “culturally, historically or aesthetically significant”.

Former child actors Peter Ostrom, Julie Don Cole, Michael Bolner, Paris Thieman and Dennis Nickerson – who played Charlie Buckett, Veruca Salt, Augustus Gloup, Mike Teeve and Violet Beauregard, respectively – appeared for a virtual reunion yahoo entertainment In honor of the anniversary of the film.

“I can confirm that,” the actor, best known for playing television-obsessed badass Mike TV, confirmed. “I was younger than the others. I was 11, they were 13 and naturally more enthusiastic and fiery.”

Years after filming, the now-62-year-old had a brief reunion with Wilder while attending a fund-raiser screening of Wilder’s 1976 hit “Silver Streak” at the Avon Theater in Stamford, Connecticut, where the famous The actor confirmed his feelings.

“I sat down at the back of the room and he gave his remarks and then I went to the front of the room with my poster afterwards,” said Themen, smiling. “I said, ‘Hi, Jean, how are you? I’m Paris Theeman, in ‘Willy Wonka’ I was Mike TV.”

“And he said, ‘Oh, you were a brat!’ And I flashed all the way back to 50 years, or 40 years at the time, and said, ‘Well, I’m 50-something now and maybe not as much as a brat.’ And he signed my poster, ‘To my favorite brat’.”

Wilder died in 2016 At the age of 83, after a long and successful career in several classic films such as “Young Frankenstein,” “The Producers” and “Blazing Saddles.”

Reflecting on his time with the iconic actor, Cole, who played Veruca Salt, said: “I think people want us to tell you he was like Willy Wonka Offset, but he wasn’t.”

The actress, known for playing the group’s spoiled brat, shared, “He was such a sweet, kind man, so humble.”

“He was just grounded, not pretentious, he was just an amazing person to work with and work with,” says Ostrom.

The 50-anniversary of “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory”, starring Timothée Chalamet, comes on the heels of the announcement of a prequel to the famous film based on the book by Roald Dahl, whose arrival date is already set for March 2023.
