When the Virgin Galactic campaign targets Richard Branson on July 11, the SPCE is on the rise

Shares of Virgin Galactic rose after the space travel company announced on Friday that it would hand over its next space flight test to founder Sir Richard Branson.

The mission – along with three Virgin Galactic employees and two pilots piloting the VSS Unity spacecraft carrying Branson – is scheduled to launch on July 11 from the company’s operations center in Spaceport America, New Mexico.

The flight not only signifies Branson’s long-awaited space journey, but it also means an attempt to defeat billionaire Jeff Bezos. The latter announced last month that its Blue Origin company would launch its first passenger space flight on July 20th.

Virgin Galactic shares rose 28% in previous market trading, compared to $ 43.19 a share price. Shares rose 82 percent this year, but saw wild fluctuations – a share price rose above $ 60 in February, fell to $ 15 in May, and then rebounded.

Before the opening, they grew 22 percent in early trading.

This will be Virgin Galactic’s fourth development space flight to date, as passengers are testing the VSS Unity lounge as the company plans to launch flights to tourists and researchers in early 2022.

Virgin Galactic said the space flight will be available live for the first time on Twitter, YouTube and Facebook.

The company has about 600 bookings for tickets for upcoming flights, each selling for prices ranging from $ 200,000 to $ 250,000. “When we get back from space, I’m going to announce something very exciting to give more people a chance to become astronauts,” Branson said in a video on Thursday.

Virgin Galactic, founded in 2004, tested the spacecraft system in 2014 with years of failure and catastrophic destruction.

The VSS Unity jet engine takes off from the aircraft before flying at a speed three times the speed of sound. The spacecraft then spends a few minutes in microgravity above 80 miles – which officially recognizes the U.S. border as space – before orbiting and returning to Earth to land on the Spaceport America runway.

Jeff Bezos will review the New Shepard missile booster at the landing site in April 2021, following the successful take-off and landing of the NS-15.

The Bezos company also spent several years preparing to launch its first passengers. Blue Origin’s New Shepard rocket has made more than a dozen successful space flights and was last launched in April. Flying alongside Bezos, his brother Mark will be the yet-to-be-announced winner of the $ 28 million auction and legendary aerospace pioneer Wally Funk.

Blue Origin CEO Bob Smith noted that his company’s spacecraft will travel slightly higher than Virgin Galactic’s. The internationally recognized boundary of the new Shepard spacecraft crosses the Karman line at an altitude of 100 kilometers (or about 328,000 feet) just a few miles away.

“We wish him a great and safe flight, but they won’t be flying over the Karman line, and it’s a very different experience,” Smith told Acesparks.
