Colby Covington’s last fight was in the welterweight division against his arch-rival Tyron Woodley. The fight featured UFC Fight Night: Covington and Woodley events and defeated Covington Woodley through TKO in the fifth round.
The middleweight bout between Kerby Covington and Tyrone Woodley was scheduled for five rounds. It was an important meeting for the UFC in the welterweight division at the time. For several years, Colby Covington and Tyron Woodley trained together at the world-famous ATT (American Top Team). Over the years, the tension between them gradually increased. Consequently, Covington began to make public calls calling for a fight against Woodley. Finally, the fury match was against UFC Fight Night: Covington and Woodley.
Coli Covington was able to take advantage of the extraordinary speed and relentless aggressive strategy of getting to work right away. This paid off, as Covington dominated the fight in both spectacular and controversial exchanges. The final ended in 1:19 of the fifth round.
Tyrone Woodley suffered a rib injury in the fifth and final round of the fight. Woodley could not compete and Cobby Covington was declared the winner in the fifth round of the TKO.
Colby Covington will have an undisputed fight for the 2021 UFC welterweight title
Koli Covington faced Kamaru Usman for the undisputed UFC welterweight title at UFC 245 (December 2019), but lost back and forth in the fifth round through the TKO.
Still, Colby Covington’s next fight – his stunning victory over Tyrone Woodley – brought him back into the mix. Now Covington is scheduled to fight Usman for the UFC welterweight title at UFC 268 in November 2021.
