Victor Cruz focused on the brutal end of the Giants season, when the team cleaned up the home of GM Dave Getlman and coach Joe Judge.
Cruz spoke to The Post on behalf of the Crystal fast food chain, which is collaborating to open a franchise in its hometown of Paterson (NJ). He discussed the embarrassing white flag of the quarterback with the goal line staff, Daniel Jones is the future defender and so on.
“It was probably the weirdest [play I’ve seen]Cruz said. “As a player, if I was on that team, we would have given up. We’re just unaware of the last few games, trying to make a relatively healthy transition, just worried about leaving the field.
“As a player, I felt terrible,” he said. I want to compete. I am a competitor. Most of the players are like that. No matter what your score is, you want to fight for your team. You want to go there and prove that you belong to this league. Not just for you, but for the remaining 31 teams in the league.
Cruz, 35, played for the Giants from 2010-2016. He won the Super Bowl 46 over the Patriots 21-17 and made one Pro Bowl.
Former player Daniel Jones was indifferent to the question of whether the midfielder would have a long-term answer.
“It’s hard for me – I understand it’s been X years and we’ve seen a healthy dose of it. But I still don’t know if we’ve seen a healthy enough dose with a good offensive line. O-line has not been a united front in a long time, ”Cruz said.
“I think they should go back to a [strong offensive line] To see what’s in Jones. I think they know what they have in terms of their abilities, but it’s in terms of a win-win factor. There are still question marks, and I think they will give him another year to figure it out. ”
While many Giant observers wondered why Dave Getlmann was gracefully allowed to “retire” when the judge was relieved of his duties, Cruz felt the difference didn’t matter because the end result was that neither of them become
“His words are always tough,” Cruz said. “Obviously we don’t know what happened behind closed doors. Even though Dave Getlman is retired, retirement is a word you can use and you can’t say you’re fired.
“In the end, they both came to the same agreement – whether you’re retired or fired, it’s all the same,” he said. The word is New York City only. They always adjust it well, use white gloves, and see what word they use.
Cruz said goodbye to the referee was the right decision for the organization.
“Eventually, the giants cleaned the house and they had to do it – not because Joe Judj was a bad coach. I think there were times when he did good. But at the end of the year, it’s about how you leave a taste in the mouths of Gigants fans. Yes, they were not good. But is there a bright spot to make you feel better soon? Their last game of the season was in games 3 and 22. “
Asked who the Giants should hire as their next coach, Cruz invited ESPN analyst Louis Riddick (at least not yet linked to any reports as a candidate) for the position of general manager.
“I think he understands NFL culture right now,” Cruz said. “He understands the game. He’s seen a lot of football. He used to work in the front office. I think he would have embodied the New York environment. I think he understands how to deal with it. I think , he is a respected football mind who can attract some talent to himself. “
