January 14 () – Walmart Inc. said on Friday that Scott McCall, chief sales officer of the U.S. division, will retire and hand over control to food chief Charles Redfield for trying to take advantage of the gains made during the pandemic.

According to an internal note sent to staff, Redfield, which has led the U.S. food business for the past six years, will immediately take on the role.

Prior to Walmart, Redfield played key merchandising roles at the UK-based U.S. retailer ASDA grocery store and the Sam’s Club Warehouse Club, according to a note sent by U.S. CEO John Furner.

The change in leadership came two months after Walmart reported better-than-expected sales in the third quarter in the United States and raised its annual sales and profit forecasts.

The good prognosis came against the backdrop of growing demand for food and household goods and a large increase in online shopping during the pandemic, an increase of 8 percent in the U.S. or 87 percent from pre-pandemic levels.

McCall, who has worked with Walmart for nearly 30 years, will work with Chris Nicholas, head of U.S. inventory operations operations, before retiring, the note said.

Bentonville, an Arkansas-based company, also said customer general manager Jenny Whiteside will leave in March “to start her next chapter with her family in New York.”

Whiteside was the company’s first major customer when he was appointed in 2018.
