The recent fights of UFC veteran Misha Cirkunov have prompted a change in weight class.
An advertisement on Tuesday showed that Canadian Latvia had switched from lightweight to middleweight on October 2 with Polish Krzysztof Jotko. This will be Cirkunov’s first fight in the MMA weight class.
Cirkunov (15-6) has lost four of his last six, including a 71-second technical knockout against Ryan Spann in March. All of his last seven fights ended in the first round, but it’s been a tough road since he started 4-0 in the octagon. Cirkunov’s last win was Jimmy Krut’s delivery through Peruvian ties.
Jotko (22-5) has been with the UFC since 2013. His winning streak of three fights against Alain Amedowski, Mark-Andre Barrio and Eric Anders was interrupted by contender Sean Strickland in May last year. Most of Jotko’s fights are over long distances, and Cirkunov hasn’t been on the bench since 2011.
The UFC card title on Oct. 2 will be in the lightweight division between former champion belt Thiago Santos and thrilling knockout artist Johnny Walker.
