Calisto (aka Samurai Del Sol) has been released from WWE as part of a worldwide budget cut. The former U.S. champion recently sat down for an hour-long conversation Lucha Libre Online’s Michael Morales Torres, where he discussed several topics related to his career and personal life.
Calisto went through a very difficult phase in the last half of his WWE career when his wife, Abigail Rodriguez, was diagnosed with a brain tumor. The 34-year-old star was depressed because she had been anxiously awaiting her husband’s medical results for two months.
Uncertainty over his wife’s health has undermined Calisto’s work as he has failed to focus on improving his position at WWE. Shortly after his injury, Calisto extended his contract with the company, thereby recalling his contract with COVID-19.
A former member of the Lucha House Party has been plagued by high fever for seven days and shoulder problems have exacerbated the situation. Calisto recovered and began to shape his buff physics to prepare for his return to the ring.
“They told me my wife was going to die. I think I also got KOVID-19 when I was injured. I signed my new contract on Friday, 2019. That Sunday I injured myself,” Calisto said. “I went back to Orlando and told my wife I wasn’t feeling well. She took me to the hospital and I had a fever of 105 degrees (Fahrenheit level), as well as my shoulders and everything, as well. It lasted seven days, a very ugly situation.”
“I was stressed for several months because my wife was misdiagnosed. The doctors thought she had a tumor in her brain and I spent almost two months waiting for the result. I’m working without knowing it,” my wife is going to die. They’re waiting for us for a month and a half. I know my job well, but I was still not well. I was hindering myself from improving and many other things. “
Luchador hit the gym and the results were available to everyone when he returned to WWE TV late last year to showcase his new look.
“I couldn’t go to the doctor or anything because when he hit me, no one knew he was KOVID; when he hit me, he hit me hard. I was mentally elsewhere,” he added. “After that, I started focusing on myself. That’s when I came back with a different body and a different look.”
All was well: Calisto on his wife’s health
Calisto found out that his wife was dealing with a gluten allergy and had no reason to worry. However, the former NXT star was unable to take a break as he suffered a shoulder injury in December 2019.
“Everything was fine. He had a gluten allergy. We started to find out, and then the bottle, the thing on my face, hit me, and it hurt me, and I tore my shoulder in the center of the staples,” Calisto added.
“The injury lasted for about eight months. I had to be outside, but with everything that happened to me, I would have been left out anyway. (H / t Lucha Libre Online)
Initially, Ray spent eight years at WWE until he was released in April 2021 to become Mysterio’s successor.
During a recent LLO interview, the former WWE star also spoke about his support for the company, its release, marriage games and more.
