The Patriot was depicted on WWE programming as a patriotic character waving the red, white and blue American flag. We are deeply saddened to learn that he passed away a few days before the 4th of July.
Alan Wright Adkins broke the sad news via Facebook that Dale Wilkes has passed away. He was 59 years old. No cause of death has been revealed till the time of writing this news.
At the request of his family, it is with a devastated heart that I tell you that heaven has received one of the most special men I have had the honor of knowing to date. Dale Wilkes, I have loved you for 40 years and always will. Rest in peace, my dear friend… you will be missed more than you ever knew.
Wilkes was an All-American football player for the University of South Carolina. He was one of only four consensus All-American football payees in the school’s history. He later entered the world of pro wrestling after his time in football.
Memorials are now filling in the internet wrestling community as fans share their favorite memories from the iconic Patriots character. It’s an incredibly sad passing and Wilkes had plans in place as well. Sean Ross Sapp confirmed that he has an interview with The Patriot which is set for release on July 4.
Our thoughts are with the Wilkes family at this sad time. RIP.
