It was only 2019 when Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving flew the Knicks without meeting. Kemba Walker from the Bronx didn’t want that either.
Kawhi would hardly have Leonard Knicks on his radar, but would have sat politely with former President Steve Mills. Leonard’s “Uncle Dennis” in New Jersey is an old friend of Mills.
The free agent freeze lasted until last November, even after Tom Thibaut was appointed head coach. Don’t believe the Knicks didn’t offer Toronto keeper Fred VanVlit $ 85 million in four years. He didn’t even accept Nick’s call. How did this 12th-ranked conference end, Freddie?
Gordon Hayward, Jerami Grant, Danilo Gallinari and Bogdan Bogdanovich also did not view New York as a primary destination. Imagine looking at New York as an opinion against Charlotte, Detroit and Atlanta.
It was an ugly truth – the owner, James Dolan, didn’t like it. And now it has changed.
There are no guarantees, but according to several agents and executives who were once asked if Manhattan could be a major time basketball venue for players.
Thibodeau kept his promise to change the culture. The record of 41-31 and joining the playoffs as the fourth number in the East changed the image. Throughout the season, coaches have defended Nick’s defense on a solid and physical level.
The Hawks ’4-1 cleanup in the first round didn’t smell the same after a month. Many prefer to remember the deaf-hearing areas of the Garden rather than the routes in the last three games.
After all, these are two games from the Hawks NBA Finals. And the Nicks played the Hawks when they were the healthiest – the X factor in beating D’Andre Hunter and X Julius Randle. The hunter never made it to the second round.
“They took a huge step forward,” said one team executive. “And they were an exciting team to watch.”
John McEnroe said he was in a few tons of live sports last week, but Game 2 against the Hawks was one of his top five races. Undoubtedly, the chalk part, which was up to the excitement of the fans, was finally unmasked and shoulder-to-shoulder in a full field.
DJ Derrick Rose’s agent and Michael Jordan’s former Bulls friend BJ Armstrong was ready to fly off the West Coast if Game 7 happened.
“You could only hear his height on TV,” Armstrong said. “It sounded like the biggest show on Earth. ”
Thibodeau, who is Nibo’s best coach of the year, only hopes the Knicks will attract the creators of the free agent difference.
When he was hired about a year ago, Thibodeau was still responding to the Minnesota shooting and how he treated the young players of the Timberwolves in the old school.
Not everyone has benefited from Thibodo’s coaching this season. Junior Dennis Smith, Kevin Knox, Austin Rivers and Frank Ntilikina did not. But his recipe worked again and he broke the playoff drought again.
“I think the presence of Thibodeau will be a big help to the Knicks in a free agency,” said former Magic coach Steve Clifford. “He has a huge reputation associated with players and will definitely win.”
Team president Leon Rose and executive vice president William Wesley have both been hired because of former agents, connections and relationships. But there is nothing to win.
Credit Rose for still believing Thibodeau as one of the best coaches in the game.
Nicks no longer hurt the eye. Randle has shown that he is talented in the NBA. RJ Barrett demonstrated the potential of the Stars. Playing the lead roles on the Canadian team (22 points in Tuesday’s Olympic qualifiers) will only help Nick’s image.
Rookie Immanuel Quickley showed his imagination that he is the sixth person to look like Lou Williams. And Derrick Rose has shown that even if he has to be a backup next season, he still exists.
If Portland superstar Damian Lillard has made a sales request, expect the Knicks to be on his wish list. Wesley hired Johnny Bryant as an assistant coach and he is one of Lilard’s coaches in Auckland, California. The Nicks believe this will cause Lillard to want New York.
Not attracting stars to New York until 2010, when LeBron James headed to the South Coast after a disturbing meeting with Knicks President Donnie Walsh.
When David Fizdale was hired as the Knicks head coach, he promised to bring in the stars – probably his boyfriend James from Miami.
James Fizdale was taken to the Lakers reserve again for next season. Perhaps the Knicks ’chances of adding James to Fizdale were closer than they were announced in 2018.
In a recent interview, Lisa Robinson of Vanity Fair noted that James was approved for the film “Fixdale’s Knicks on the Lakers.”
“LeBron wanted to come to New York,” Robinson said recently on the podcast. “I have really good sources about it. He was thinking of coming to New York, but his wife wanted to be in Los Angeles, he wanted the kids to go to school in Los Angeles, and it just kiboshed everything.”
James is not a free agent this summer and will be tied to Los Angeles. But Leonard, who suffered a serious knee injury, is a free agent and could leave LA Kyle Lowry, DeMar DeRozan, Lonzo Ball and Dennis Schroeder.
This time around, the once-depressed franchise has the makeup of Manhattan and deserves a legitimate look.
