Texas border guards on Monday discovered 74 illegal immigrants inside a trailer of travelers being brought into the United States, who shared X-rays of the displaced immigrants.

“Coordination and collaboration between agents and Texas Dertment public safety has resulted in many immigrants being rescued from an extremely dangerous situation,” said Sean L. McGoffin, Big Bend Sector chief troll agent. “Transnational criminal organizations hire U.S. citizens to facilitate their smuggling, which continues to endanger their lives regardless of their safety and well-being.”

Big Bend Sector agents conducted a traffic inspection on a large travel trailer at the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), 10 immigration checkpoints on the Interstate Highway in Sierra Blanca. said in a news release. Sierra Blanca is located in Hudspet County, 20 miles northeast of the Mexican border.

The second truck carrying the trailer passed by after the K-9 alerted the trailer to check. Agents warned of a Texas Dertment public safety smuggling scheme, and officers stopped in a second vehicle, finding several people hiding inside the trailer.

Authorities arrested a total of 74 illegal immigrants and three U.S. citizens, the CBP said.

Illegal immigrants were welcomed from countries such as Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico and Peru. They were arrested and processed accordingly, the CBP said.

Two U.S. citizens have been handed over to the Texas Public Security Department. A third juvenile, who was driving the second vehicle, was released due to his age.

To show the harmfulness of such smuggling methods, Laredo sector chief troll agent Matthew Hudak warned that “undocumented individuals live in comments that are not intended to detain people,” comparing it to “being trapped in a metal toolbox” on a hot summer day.

The CBP almost reported 930,000 clashes with illegal immigrants on the southern border since January. By the end of May, agents had rescued 7,084 migrants.

In all, more than 180,000 immigrants were interviewed in May, and their numbers are expected to remain the same in June.

Acesparks spokesman Adam Shaw contributed to the report.
