Well, it was fast.
According to many reports on Thursday, the Texans fired head coach David Callie after a season.
Callie, 66, has been hired to take over a team that has suffered in recent years after the 2020 season. Led by Bill O’Brien, the Texans traded franchise receiver DeAndre Hopkins, as well as a number of first-round picks. Future Hall of Famer JJ Watt was also released, signing with the Cardinals.
Franchising midfielder Deshaun Watson demanded the sale after the end of the season, then was accused of sexual harassment and inappropriate behavior by 22 women, leaving his status unclear.
When Calley was handed the reins, the Texans eventually lost their parts – a messy situation for the head coach for the first time.
Callie worked in the NFL for nearly thirty years before being hired. He played brilliantly and led the Texans to a 4-13 record and had a solid defensive game from newcomer Davis Mills.
Still, the Texans opted to search elsewhere in 2022. They are not alone: Eight teams are in the market for a head coach after being fired several times on Black Monday. Giants, Bears, Vikings, Dolphins, Broncos, Jaguars and Raiders are on the market for a new leadership.
Former Dolphin Coach Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network recently fired Brian Flores – “Name to Watch” The Texans were looking for Callie’s place.
