Tesla has released a new version of driver assistance software called Full Self-Driving Beta 10.2, the company said in an email to relevant car owners on Monday.
The FSD Beta provides early access to new features such as the “city streets autosteer” that Tesla is still producing, allowing drivers to drive in complex urban conditions without having to move the steering wheel with their hands.
Prototype technology, like Tesla’s standard driver assistance system, Autopilot and Full Self-Driving premium driver assistance package, doesn’t actually make Tesla cars autonomous.
In an email to customers offering to download the latest beta, Tesla warned: “The beta version of a full-size driver is limited and should be used with caution. It can do the wrong thing and at the worst possible time. “Keep your hands on the wheel and pay more attention to the road.”
In 2019, Tesla raised $ 2.7 billion from the sale of shares and convertible bonds after telling shareholders that autonomy would raise the company to a $ 500 billion market value. The company also said that Tesla cars will add self-driving capability through software updates, which will cost up to $ 250,000 over three years.
Tesla’s market value exceeded $ 500 billion at the end of last year, but the company has yet to deliver a driverless car.
At the same time, its current systems of assisting drivers have required car critics, federal and state authorities to investigate, and legal reprimands in Germany.
The National Transportation Safety Board and the National Highway Safety Administration are investigating whether Tesla’s company’s driver assistance features have caused car crashes, including casualties. Other accidents occurred with Tesla cars, which had autopilot features, hitting cars parked on the side of the road.
The NTSB called Tesla’s FSD Beta program special because it used a lack of federal regulations and tested it on public roads that pose a risk to drivers, other motorists, passengers or pedestrians.
The latest version of the beta FSD came just days after Tesla CEO Elon Musk had planned it. On Oct. 9, Musk wrote on Twitter: “Concerns about this construction are the last few seconds. Maybe it will be released on Sunday or Monday. Sorry for the delay.” He did not elaborate on the nature of Tesla’s concerns about technology.
Who gets it?
To access the Beta FSD program, drivers must have new Tesla-branded equipment and purchase or subscribe to a premium FSD package that costs $ 10,000 or $ 199 per month in the United States. The company announced earlier this year that FSD Beta has about 2,000 users.
Tesla used an insurance calculator it created to give drivers a “safety score” to determine who should access the latest version 10.2 of the FSD Beta. Those who have scored at least 100 out of 100 in the past week have been invited to download and test the new FSD Beta.

In a contract that Tesla sent to drivers earlier this year for access to the FSD Beta, the company asked them to “keep your experience in the app confidential” and “not to tell anyone about the app,” including taking screenshots. posting on blogs or social networks.
According to the full agreement version, Tesla called Facebook, Instagram, Reddit, TikTok, Snapchat and YouTube sites that owners should not share information about their use of FSD Beta.
