Sorry, glitterati, no Sundance for you!

COVID has been canceled – like many other things – the superstar’s personal film festival, which turns Park City, Utah, into Beverly Hills every January.

While this is terrible news for Hollywood, it’s great news for us, as Joe Shmoes is using this winter’s land of wonders, 33 miles southeast of Salt Lake City, as intended.

Don’t expect to sign a contract because Park City isn’t popular. Does the cancellation of festival visitors mean lower room prices? “No,” Dan Howard, Visit Park City’s vice president of communications, told The Post.

“Room prices should go down a bit as availability may increase, but January still represents the peak of the winter ski season,” Howard said.

Surrounded by the beauty of a half-hour drive from Main Street and pure canyon, the Lodge at Blue Sky, the Auberge Resorts Collection winter room price is about $ 1,349 per night. In the normal Sundance season, however, starting rates rise to $ 1,899.

Rotating birds set in the blue sky will not be difficult to entertain themselves without Sundance.

Even better, we now have the conveniences for the rich and famous.

For example, the Japanese who heat the blue of the blue sky donabe Hot pot pop-up, Usu-Zan by SingleThread (California farm-to-table “this” with the permission of chefs Kyle and Katina Connaughton) was planned around Sundance, but the seven-course meal extravaganza, January 20 to 30, ‘t canceled, a hotel spokesman said.

Still, this is an expensive noodle cake that costs $ 800-900 per person, depending on the choice of main dish, but also includes a couple of drinks.

Located at the top of Park City’s bustling main street, the A-Lister haunt features a winter glimpse of the St. Regis Deer Valley for ski entry / exit, and the cozy bonfires in luxury suites are open 24 hours a day. Après-skiing in the recently opened Vintage Room, where breaking a bottle of champagne at night is a great show. During Normal Sundance, room rates start at $ 1,899 per night; the winter season price is around $ 1349.

Valdorf Astoria Park City – a favorite destination for celebrities who come to Park City by helicopter – has access to the slopes of Mount Park City, the largest ski resort in the United States, as well as fireplaces and stunning suites. Book a snow walking session and take a deep walk into the snowy terrain. Winter room prices start at about $ 1,500 a night; During the Sundance period, tariffs start at $ 1,800.

The Washington School House in the city is a friendly boutique hotel located in one of the last surviving school homes in the 19th century in the United States. Founded in 1889 and a landmark of the National Historic Register, winter sports fans enjoy skiing and cross-country skiing around the heated outdoor pool and fireplace on the hillside. Winter rates start at $ 975 per night, with breakfast, afternoon snacks and drinks in the great living room, as well as a night off service with sweets. Due to the much-sought-after proximity of the 13-bedroom, Sundance rates go through the roof.

Sundance Mountain Resort is a western rustic resort owned by Sundance Film Festival founder Robert Redford. This is not the power of Hollywood stars! Surrounded by 6,000 acres of beautiful desert in the shadow of the 12,000-foot Mount Timpanogos in Utah, the interiors are adorned with cowboy luxury furniture, showcasing Native American art from Redford’s private collection.

Take a ski lift to the Bearclaw booth at the resort, which is the only mountain peak in Utah, and enjoy the breathtaking views of the Heber and Utah valleys and the surrounding Vasatch Mountains while tasting Mexican food. Winter rates start at $ 408 per night and go up to a normal (for Sundance) $ 800.

Pendry Park City, part of super-luxury Montage International, is set to open this January, joining its big sister Montage Deer Valley, another luxury pub with bowling alleys, darts and vintage arcade games. The outdoor heated pool and hot tubs – and the outdoor terrace with fire pits – are perfect for watching the stars. Montage Deer Valley winter rates start at $ 1,425 per night; festival rates rise to $ 2995 and up.

With no studio or corporate purchases, it should be easier to find seats in well-known food and beverage factories such as High West Distillery, a hand-crafted whiskey, bourbon and rye ski production plant next to ski lifts. – style salon; Riverhorse in Main, a combination of high-end steak and seafood; Grappa, an Italian-inspired restaurant located in a former salon and brothel; and Wahso, a luxurious Asian bistro bent to the west.

There is no doubt that Sundance will put Park City on the celebrity map every January, but visit Howard in Park City, businesses say, will take the cancellation step by step.

“We experienced this when Sundance became fully virtual in January 2021,” Howard added.

“Last year, the result was that more Sundance films were shown around the world than ever before, and Park City hotels were used by those who wanted to ski and relax outdoors.”
