This June marked the first Father’s Day since the unexpected death of Scotty Pippen’s son Antron Pippen.
Hall of Fame announced her son’s passing in an Instagram post in April. Pippen did not disclose the cause of death. Antron was 33 years old.
Today, the six-time NBA champion is still in the process of treatment.
“I’m fine. I still have times to go up and down, but I’m fine.” Pippen told people in an interview published Wednesday.
“I’ll keep finding strength because it’s not there today.”
Antron was Pippen’s eldest son. The Bulls icon is the father of 26-year-old Taylor and Sierra and 13-year-old Sofia and their sons, 20-year-old Scotty Jr., 19-year-old Preston and 16-year-old Justin.
“There’s never enough time,” Pippen said of overcoming tragic losses. “But I did it and I can cure it.”
On the first Father’s Day without Antron, Pippen told the magazine that he spent the holiday away from his children. He was in his home state of Arkansas, where he held a basketball camp at the Farris Center in Conway.
“It was very difficult. I was on my way. I camped in Arkansas, so I wasn’t around with my kids, ”he said, and“ I spent time with my brothers in Arkansas. ”
Pippen communicated with her children “over the phone.” Thinking about the holiday, Pippen said, “But I think it was a wonderful Father’s Day.”
When announcing in a social media post that her son had died in April, the “Unprotected” author said Antron was living with the disease.
“Antron suffers from chronic asthma,” Pippen writes, “and he never let that happen, though – Antron was positive and worked hard, and I’m very proud of him.
Pippen also wrote about his relationship with his eldest son in basketball, and said that if he hAcesparks’t been an astronaut, Antron would have “won the NBA.”
“A good heart and a beautiful heart left very early. I love you, son, calm down until we meet again, ”he wrote in his post.
Pippen has been in the media blitz since that day, and headlines surfaced this week when former Bulls coach Phil Jackson was accused of racism.
