If you like to play games on your phone, this may have happened to you: you want to destroy your old high score, or you want to beat the game leader at the end of the game when your phone’s powerful processor overheats, which turns your game into an unexpected game. solitary hot potatoes. If you’re lucky, you can put it down a bit to let your phone cool down, or if you’re unlucky, your phone will turn off until you have a chance to maintain your success.

This is where Razer’s Phone Cooler Chroma appears. This is a large independent fan that attaches to the back of your phone using a universal clamp. (If you’re using an iPhone 12 or 13, the MagSafe option is available.) This is a concept similar to a laptop’s cooling panel, but instead of pouring cold air into your device, the Razer Phone Cooler Chroma uses a heat sink to keep it away. excess heat and distribute it with a fan such as a processor cooler. It works surprisingly well, but we want it to be more portable and not require an additional power supply to work.

The Phone Cooler Chroma features a seven-wing fan with a speed of up to 6400 rpm, 12 adjustable RBG lights that can be programmed and modified using the Razer Phone Cooler app, aluminum cooler and cooling plate.

The body of the refrigerator is a bit wider than the iPhone 12 Mini or 13 Mini, so the MagSafe model leaks a bit from the edges. It’s also very thick, about an inch thick, and adds a nice-sized fold to the back of your device.

Considering all its features, the Razer phone cooler is understandable if not ideal compactness; The Chroma features a seven-wing fan with a speed of up to 6400 rpm, 12 adjustable RBG lights that can be programmed and modified using the Razer Phone Cooler app, aluminum cooler and cooling plate. That’s too much to fill a device that fits in your palm.

Once connected, you can turn on the side button when you start the game or back it up when your phone starts to overheat. You can also turn on the in-app setting so that the fan automatically shuts off when your phone is at 10 degrees Celsius or lower (50 degrees Fahrenheit) for 30 minutes.

The fan is also equipped with Bluetooth, so you can connect the fan to your phone to change the fan speed and the color and pattern of its lights, as well as check the current temperature of your phone. Even if the fan is not plugged in, it will not work, so you cannot change the settings until you turn it on.

Beat the heat

While both models of the Phone Cooler Chroma are large, occupying a large portion of the back of your phone, the clamp-supported model is significantly larger.

Razer has developed its mobile fan to work with games that take your phone’s device to the limit, such as Genshin Impact. The refrigerator runs surprisingly fast in lowering the temperature of your phone, and the fan has two settings: Standard and High. High – by default, and in a quiet room it is no louder than the fan in the ultrabook, though a little louder. The default mode is quieter, but it also takes a little longer to cool your phone.

After playing Genshin Impact on the iPhone 12 Mini with the highest graphics settings for about ten minutes, Chroma Phone Cooler lowered the phone temperature from 20 C (68 F) to 12 C (55 F) in less than 30 seconds.

When the fan is at the default setting, it took about fifteen seconds longer to lower the phone temperature to 58 degrees than at the High setting.

Phone Cooler Chroma works very well, but it also has a large area and requires a power connection to work.

No matter how efficient the refrigerator is, it will not work at all if it is not plugged in (no internal battery), which will not be very useful on the road unless you carry a spare battery and cable with you. It cannot be supported even when connected directly to your phone.

Also, you can’t use it with a case or controller like the Backbone One or Razer Man because it needs to be in direct contact with your fan phone to cool it effectively. Even the case that supports the Magsafe can hold some of the heat you want to dissipate, and the locked controllers have backs that block the back of your phone.

Also, the thickness of the cooler can be a bit uncomfortable during play. Depending on how you’re used to holding your phone, it’s easy to tap your fingers on it while playing a game, and the fridge won’t hold you tight. If you determine the correct position, you can put the fan on your fingers just like a Popsocket, but it gets tired very quickly.

High price, low temperature

Despite the large area, the Phone Cooler Chroma doesn’t work well as a stand, so you have to hold it while playing, which can be inconvenient.

Chroma Phone Cooler is an interesting little gadget that brings the classic Razer aesthetic to your smartphone, giving mobile players an effective way to cool it down if they are upset about the phone overheating. It’s also easy to set up and the customized lights give everything a bit of a twist.

However, from $ 60, paying for a computer fan that supports Bluetooth is a very high price and the fact that it doesn’t have a built-in battery means you need to make sure you have a cable as well as a portable battery or cell phone. a powerful brick and a nearby outlet, just to run it. It works surprisingly well, but it does it with some clear restrictions and a high price tag, which is hard to justify for everyone, but most dedicated mobile players.
