White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki accused Republicans on Tuesday. Greg Abbott of Texas and Ron DeSantis of Florida “took life-saving measures” in protest of vaccination powers in their states.
“Governor Abbott’s order to ban the vaccine mandate – and I also noted in the morning that Governor DeSantis’ announcements, in particular, banned the implementation of the mandates – emphasized that we put policy ahead of health care.” said Pskays. Daily briefing of the White House.
“More than 700,000 Americans have died from COVID-19, including more than 56,000 in Florida and more than 68,000 in Texas,” Psaki added. “Every leader should focus on supporting efforts to save lives and stop infectious diseases. Why do you take measures that make it difficult to save lives all over the country or in any state?”
TEXAS GOV. HOW WILL GREG ABBOTT COVID-19 VACCINE MANDATE BE BANS?
Psaki’s remarks came in the wake of a decree issued by Abbott in Texas banning “any organization” in the state from complying with the law. COVID-19 Vaccination authority and DeSantis have announced their readiness to protect workers fired for not receiving the COVID-19 vaccine.
“Requirements for the vaccine, if you’re unfamiliar, have been standard for decades in both Lone Star, Texas and Sunshine, Florida,” Psaki said. “Whether it’s polio, mumps, rubella, and chickenpox, there are vaccine requirements that have been used for decades in these states.”
Psaki also claimed that the behavior of Abbott and DeSantis leaves them “with long-term demands, a history of vaccines, as well as many business leaders in their states.”
Asked at a later briefing what prompted Abbott to issue the execution order, Psaki said it was based solely on “politics.”
“I think when you make a choice that contradicts all the health information and data, it’s clear that it’s in your personal policy, not in the interests of the people you’re managing.” said Psaki.
Abbott and DeSantis could not be reached for comment.
