The Little Marlins-Ronald Akuna scandal added another chapter.
Marlins pitcher Pablo Lopez was sent off on Friday night after being hit with his first shot, which was found to be the starting player for the Acuna – 2021 NL All-Star team. Marlins manager Don Mattingley and pitching coach Mel Stottlemeyer Jr. were also sacked.
After a dispute, the judges decided to expel Lopez. There were no warnings before the incident, but the 23-year-old Acuna had previously had problems with the Marlins – the sixth time they had thrown a playoff game to the Braves star.
When Acuna entered the league in 2018, former Marlins pitcher Jose Urena suspended six games for hitting the then-Braves new player. Before he could hit her at the time, Acuna overturned her bat to celebrate the home run.
Acuna has dominated the Marlins throughout his career with a .330 / .426 / .700 line-up and 20 home runs and 49 RBIs in 51 games against them in the regular season.
Acuna has made a total of eight appearances this season, the shortest time in his half-season career. But as usual, Acuna got the last laugh by scoring a goal in the first leg to Ozzi Albies ’sacrificial flight. He has scored at least one goal in every game against the Marlins this season.
