Knicks head coach Tom Thibodo never liked to attack Kevin Knox, and his team career ended miserably with his 2018 lottery contest sale to the Hawks on Thursday.
Kevin Knox Sr., the father of Knox, who played wide receiver for the Florida State and NFL Bills, said some members of the franchise raised eyebrows as to why Knox never had a chance with Tibodo.
“That’s a great question for Tom Tibodo,” Knox told Sr. The Post when asked why he felt he didn’t see Nox. “I think we took a corner,” he said. Anyone could see the development of young Kevin Knox, where he wasn’t actually a defender. I think Tom Tibodo helped Kevin become a better defender. At one point, I think it was. He’ve always had a stroke like that and so it was amazing in the whole organization why he didn’t play Kevin.
Indeed, when team president Steve Mills was in charge, Knicks general manager Scott Perry was standing to put Knox in 9th place in 2018. Incumbent President Leon Rose probably did not invest in Knox’s success. According to the source, some club staff thought Knox should play.
Knox does not blame Sr. Rose.
“It can [a factor] but in the end, the performances are not invited by the president, ”he said. “The replacement is not the president. The president hires a coach. It felt like coach Kevin Knox could have won without him. It is impossible not to be excited to move to another team, because you may have the opportunity to play meaningful moments.
Knox, who has not spoken to the media before the season, is very happy with the sale, bringing him closer to his hometown of Tampa, Fla.
“Rolls Royce doesn’t have many miles,” Knox Sr. said.
In the trade, the Knicks took Kam Reddish, who asked Atlanta to take more game time, but fell into a similar logma.
“Kevin is excited,” Knox Sr. said. “He sees an opportunity here, which is to move faster to play with the all-star Tre Yangda point guard. He gets on the line and kicks people for open shots. Kevin is very happy with coach Nate [McMillan], a proven coach who played in the league.
“Since he was in the league, Kevin has had three coaches, two presidents and a new coaching staff. Nate sees fresh air for Kevin.
Knox has made just 13 appearances this season.
“We were looking for another opportunity to play,” Knox Sr. said. “I hope we find a coach who believes in himself, who believes in the talent and skill of Kevin Knox. That’s a relief. ”
Knox was removed from the Knicks rotation early last season, then never cracked in the 2021-22 season.
However, the last straw came last month, last month, after COVID-19 destroyed the team, Knox needed a forward backup force and played against the Bucks and Warriors. He then took the COVID-19 and when he returned, he returned to the end of the bench.
“He came into the game after not playing against Milwaukee, taking 5 of 3 out of 12,” Knox told Sr. “In the next game he scored nine points and seven rebounds, then we won’t see Kevin again. I know it was amazing for us. ”
“Agent Aaron Turner spoke to Atlanta GM [Travis Schlenk]. This is a trade that both sides want. Atlanta gets a first-round pick and a young player who is on par with Kem Reddish. We value the opportunity. “
