WASHINGTON – If Kemba Walker has his say, swingman Dwayne will have a long season with the Bacon Knicks.
Bacon has an unsecured minimum contract after it was surprisingly released by Magic in August. He played in all 72 games for Orlando last season, 50 of them in the starting lineup.
Bacon partially chose the Knicks as the landing site in Walker’s presence. They were teammates together in Charlotte for the first two seasons of Bacon in 2017-18 and 2018-19. Since the Knicks president was at the Creative Artists Agency, it didn’t hurt that Walker was a former client of Leon Rose.
Bacon looked like the Knicks’ 15th youngster after defender Luca Vildoza gave up last weekend. But head coach Tom Thibaut is also considering Wayne Selden, who joined the training camp late after his participation in the summer league. Selden, formerly of the Grizzlies and Pelicans, also replaces Bacon.
“I know guys like Kemba here, I’ve played with them,” Bacon said after Saturday’s shooting at Georgetown University in the Knicks ’second game of the season with the Wizards. “I have a relationship and I’m a good guy in the locker room. If they have to play me, play.
“Kemba and I have been in a relationship since Charlotte,” Bacon added. “It was my veterinary year, I kept it for two years before I went to Boston. And we just had a great relationship. He saw what a guy I was, a worker, always kept the locker room happy and cheerful. It just united with the brotherhood. . He helped me a lot, he helped my family a lot. He is a great guy, you don’t meet him often and I am happy with this friendship.
Theo Pinson played a live star in the locker room last season and as a first-place jockey. But Bacon can actually make a ring — he scores more goals than a 3-point demon.
He speaks with a quick smile, and an NBA scout told Bacon to strike quickly.
Last season, Bacon averaged 10.9 points, but only 28.5 percent of the 3-point range. He has appeared in 207 career games with Charlotte and Orlando, and his 3-point share is 30.1 percent. The protection of the bacon will be the deciding factor in keeping it from sticking.
Neither Bacon nor Selden played in their pre-season game against the Pacers on Tuesday.
“I can hit the ball,” Bacon said. “I can defend. I can be the person in the locker room. Every day when I wake up, I smile because I’m in a situation like this. When my number is called, I’m in business. When everyone is there, If so, I will support everyone. This is my role now. “
Going through another deep reconstruction process, Orlando cut Bacon, albeit at the age of 26.
“No, I wasn’t surprised,” Bacon said of the cut. “That’s what we’ve already talked about. Orlando was great for me. They had a lot of young guys, they wanted to watch the whole season, and if I was there, I wouldn’t slow down their growth, but they made me o. Other guys can play as much as they want. There are no hard feelings.
