Jimmy Smith became the chief announcer of WWE Monday Night Raw in May 2021. Smith entered the world of wrestling through his career in mixed martial arts. He had a short career as a TV presenter in Bellator and The American Ninja Warrior. The WWE experience led to a completely different set of rules.

For Jimmy, broadcasting legitimate sports was not a problem. There is no real share for the commentator during the MMA fight. Putting on matches, stories, and wrestlers was an entirely new thing for Smith.

Jimmy recently appeared in “Throw down with Rene and Miesha”Here the commentator discussed the differences. Smith also gave an insight into how to work with Vince McMahon. According to him, everything was prepared for him before each event.

“Oddly enough, when it comes to MMA, it’s not a show. I’m calling for an event, an event and a show are two different things. I know it’s hard to understand. I’m sitting there, two people fighting. I have nothing to do with when it starts, when it ends, and how they fight. If they get there, they lay eggs and they suck, that’s not my problem. Or if they have a banger, I’m the same for the trip, but the show and the fight are something special. At RAW, they’re all together, so I’m part of the show and the show is part of me and I’m part of creating this show …

We [Smith and Vince McMahon] go to a production meeting before each show. We talk about what’s going on, what thought process is behind everything, and what psychology is behind everything. That’s how the show should go at that meeting, that’s what we’re thinking, and things like that. After that, once I’m on the air, I can totally do what I need to do in general. If he has to say something, he does it, but most of the pre-show meetings, i.e. interactions, take place at that meeting.

Jimmy Smith is aware of the nuances that make professional wrestling broadcast different from other sports. The new concert adds responsibility. Smith is always ready to deliver what Vince McMahon is looking for.
