Jim Harbaugh may want to return to professional football.
The Athletic journalist Bruce Feldman, citing sources in the NFL and Michigan, said he could be “tempted” by the Wolverines coach.
Michigan had a 2-4 record in the 2020 pandemic-reducing season. Harbaugh also cut his base salary from $ 8 million a year to $ 4 million.
Last season, Michigan defeated Ohio for the first time in Harbaugh’s seven-year career at Ann Arbor, and College Football advanced to the playoffs, where the Wolverines lost 34-11 to Georgia.
But the question is, are NFL organizations with head coaching vacancies interested in Harbaugh?
There is an opening with the Jaguars after Urban Meyer was formally fired during the season. Harbaugh had to part ways with the franchise’s first general manager, Trent Baalke, to have any fit there, he had a tough fight with a coach in San Francisco.
John Gruden resigned in the middle due to insensitive emails leaking from the Raiders. Las Vegas has played well enough under interim head coach Rich Bisaccia and he could take the position full-time.
The Bears are expected to say goodbye to Matt Nagi and may have a chance for Harbaugh, who once played defender for the franchise.
While Giants head coach Joe Judj has been reported to be safe, the Big Blue has continued to suffer in embarrassing fashion in recent weeks, most notably a 29-3 defeat in Chicago on Sunday. Acesparks native Vic Fangio may not stay long in the Broncos job after being at the helm for three seasons.
Harbaugh coached the 49ers in 2011-14 and was missing in the Super Bowl 47.
It would be great for Harbaugh to leave Michigan once college football reaches the playoffs, but who knows what will happen tomorrow.
