Islam Makhachev explained why Dagestani fighters were superior in the fight. Makhachev suggested that wrestling be considered a national sport in Russia’s Dagestan region.
While chatting with Meth Serra and Jim Norton on the UFC Filterless podcast, Islam Makhachev discussed several topics. Khabib Nurmagomedov, a rising star from Dagestan and a longtime teammate of the MMA legend, explained why wrestling is deeply ingrained in Dagestan culture.
Matt Serra had words to praise Islam Makhachev. Serra told Makhachev that he was on a different level in his recent fight against a tough opponent at Drew Dober.

In response, Islam Makhachev praised his Dagestani struggle for his excellent performance against Dober. Makhachev said:
“Because, brother, we have, you know, different levels of wrestling skills in Dagestan; that’s why.”
