The viral TikTok video pointed out that your iPhone can be tracked almost everywhere, causing some people to change their settings instantly.
The feature in question is called “Important Areas” and it may look awful, but it has a number of purposes.
This allows your iPhone to record the places you visit frequently, so it can offer you services like personalized traffic updates or the fastest route home.
It should be noted that Apple’s “Important Locations” information is stored on your device and will not be shared with others.
It is also fully encrypted.
Some people find this feature awful, even if they don’t break your device and no one else sees the data.
This feature was used to catch fraudulent partners who repeatedly went to a suspicious address.
The good news is that it’s easy to turn it off.
TikToker Scott Polderman showed you how to see your highlights in a video that has 1.5 million likes so far.
He explains: “Go into your settings. Scroll down until you see privacy. Click on it.
“Switch to location services. Click here and then you scroll down to the end and click on System Services.
“Then, go from there to Important Places.”
Once you’ve done that, you should be able to see all the places the iPhone is watching you.
If you click on addresses, it can show the days and times you were there.
If you want to disable this feature, find the edit button at the top of the Important Locations page and turn it off.
You will then need to click the “Delete” button again to confirm this.
