Shults: It is written about self-reflection. At risk of becoming a cliché, this is one of the most divisive I’ve seen in our country, and the song has a sense of empathy for what you think is the “other side” instead of easily insulting each other. these are vague vignettes. Part of it is almost like a cradle song in sad times.

Q: In Reprise, you take it back to the first track called Brightside. Musically uplifting with a foot-pressing, resonant chorus, so do you intend to finish on an optimistic note?

Shults: Someone (“Reprise”) is described as a Rorschach test. If you want to see it as positive, it’s in your head – I’ve seen “lights” (in the lyrics) that someone is dying, but it could also be a guy in a Cadillac driving in the sun: “I I’m waiting. In the sun / waiting in the sun tonight. ‘ I think the song seemed to combine the record. It felt like a play for us. It made us smile, it made us feel good.
