Jamie Lee Curtis, one of the most talented actresses of her generation, is eyeing an Academy Award for her recent performance in “Halloween.” The actress, who rose to fame in the 1970s, has been nominated for numerous awards over the years, but has yet to win an Oscar.
However, Curtis believes that her role in “Halloween” could change all that. In an interview with USA Today, Curtis opened up about her past and her hopes for the future.
“I’m hoping that this film may be a tipping point for me,” she told the paper. “It’s the best-reviewed film I’ve ever had, and it also is very personal.”
Curtis explained that the film holds a special significance for her as it ties her to her mother, Janet Leigh, who was famously killed off in the shower scene of “Psycho.”
“My mother was in the most famous movie murder scene of all time,” Curtis said. “She won an Academy Award for “The Defiant Ones”, but she is only remembered for the shower scene. I feel like this is a beautiful link to my mother, who I miss terribly.”
Curtis went on to say that she believes the role in “Halloween” was meant for her. She revealed that she had originally turned down the role several times, but eventually changed her mind, in part because of her mother’s legacy.
“I felt like something was telling me to do it,” she said. “I think there was a little divine intervention, and maybe my mother wanted me to do this.”
Curtis has been critical of ageism in Hollywood in the past, and says that she hopes her performance in “Halloween” will help to change the industry’s mentality towards older female actors.
“I think it’s time to embrace women of every age,” she said. “I think it’s time to start seeing great roles for women who aren’t 25 anymore. I’m 59, and I’m just starting to hit my stride.”
Whether or not Curtis wins an Academy Award for her performance in “Halloween,” it’s clear that she has already achieved success in reconnecting with her mother’s legacy and breaking down barriers for older women in Hollywood. Her passion and dedication to her craft serve as an inspiration to all who aim to achieve greatness in their respective fields.
