Pop star Pink recently opened up about her relationship with Madonna in an interview with The Guardian. The singer, who has been in the music industry for more than two decades, revealed why the legendary singer doesn’t like her — and why she still loves her.
Pink, whose real name is Alecia Beth Moore, said that Madonna is “the queen of pop” and that “she doesn’t like me, but I still love her”. She went on to explain that Madonna’s dislike of her stems from her decision to not be a part of the singer’s Rebel Heart tour in 2015.
“I was asked to open for her on the Rebel Heart tour. I said, ‘No, I’m not going to open for you.’ That was probably why she didn’t like me,” Pink said.
The 38-year-old singer said that she has a lot of respect for Madonna, but that she also has to do what’s best for her own career.
“I have a lot of respect for her. I just think she’s a wonderful artist and a wonderful songwriter, but I don’t think I’m made to open for people,” Pink said.
Despite their differences, Pink said that she still loves Madonna and wishes her the best.
“I still love her. I just don’t think I’m made to open for people. I wish her all the best. I just know that I have to look out for myself,” she said.
Pink’s comments come just days after Madonna released her latest album, Madame X, which has been met with critical acclaim. The singer has also recently announced a world tour, which will kick off in 2020.
Pink’s openness about her relationship with Madonna is a reminder that even the biggest stars experience moments of disagreement and conflict. Despite their differences, it’s clear that Pink still holds the Queen of Pop in high regard — and that she wishes her the best.
