American Psycho author Bret Easton Ellis recently took to Twitter to express his disdain for New York City and its high cost of living. The cult classic author, whose novel was set in Manhattan, said he was “shocked” by the city’s housing prices and asked, “How in the f–k does anyone live here?”
Ellis, who moved from Los Angeles to New York in 2016, said he was “stunned” by the city’s high rent prices. He said he had heard that rent prices in Manhattan were “insane,” but he was still surprised by the reality of the situation.
The author went on to say that he was “disgusted” by the city’s housing market and accused landlords of taking advantage of people who were desperate for a place to live. He said that he had heard stories of people being forced to rent tiny, overpriced apartments and being subjected to “horrible” living conditions.
Ellis also said that he was “disgusted” by the city’s homeless population and accused the city of not doing enough to help them. He said that he had seen homeless people sleeping on the streets and in subways and accused the city of not doing enough to help them.
The author concluded his rant by saying that he was “shocked” by the city’s cost of living and asked, “How in the f–k does anyone live here?” His comments sparked a debate on Twitter, with some people agreeing with his assessment and others defending the city.
No matter what side of the debate you fall on, one thing is certain: the cost of living in New York City is high, and it doesn’t look like it’s going to get any cheaper anytime soon.
