Maria Taylor has a fan in Jalen Rose.
Rose Taylor, author of the Renaissance Man column and the podcast host of the Post, backed him when he told national audiences he had to get paid by ESPN during a pre-match broadcast on Wednesday night at the NBA Countdown.
On the eve of the Suns ’6-game win over the Clippers, ESPN analyst Jay Williams discusses Clippers star Reggie Jackson, who made a big impression in the post-season. “If you know your job well, you deserve a bag,” Williams and Jackson said of the big payday.
“If so, Maria needs to raise her salary,” Rose replied.
On Wednesday morning, The Post’s Andrew Markand Taylor reported that his relationship with ESPN could be severed after he hoped to find “Stephen A. Smith’s money.” (Smith earns about $ 8 million a year.)
Taylor turned down ESPN’s offer, which could have increased his salary from about $ 1 million a year to $ 5 million at the end of the offer, Marchand reported.
Taylor laughed briefly, then moved on to discuss Jackson’s post-season stats. Apparently, Rose’s comment created a slightly uncomfortable cloud.
Marchand insisted that ESPN would see a long life in Taylor and that he was the man he wanted to keep the network.
Taylor’s contract expires on or around July 20, so time will tell how the situation will turn out. If the NBA Finals consist of seven games, the series will end on July 22nd.
