UFC welterweight champion Islam Makhachev will begin his first UFC major fight tonight when he meets Tiago Moises at UFC Vegas 31. The Dagestani will compete with Khabib Nurmagomedov, a light goat in his corner.

Along with the Eagle’s experience and know-how, Maxachev is also under pressure as he makes his way to the cage for the second time since his friend and teammate vacated the top positions in the UFC 155 pound division.

In a conversation with ESPN Nurmagomedov explained that now that he was retired, it was time for Makhachev to claim the final prize of the division.

“He will turn 30 in October,” Nurmagomedov said. MMA Fighting). “This is the best time to show the world who is the best. When I was 30 years old [old]”I became the UFC lightweight champion.”

“When you turn 30 [old], I think your mental and physical level will rise to the same level – 30, 31, 32, this is the perfect age, – continued the former champion. “Right now at this age of Islam, he has achieved very good victories – mental, physical, boxing, kicking, wrestling and everything else, I think he is a little ahead of these guys. Similarly, I believe he can finish Dustin Poirier. Maybe. Dustin may be upset, but I believe he can finish Dustin Pirie. He can fire Charles Oliveira. I don’t think Charles can play with him like that, all ju-jitsu, guard, I think. I sincerely believe that. “We just need time. We need time, there will be no accidents.”

Nurmagomedov said he felt Makhachyov was on the verge of winning big titles like Piri and Oliveira and expected his good friend to fight for the championship in 2022.

“I think next year Islam will fight for that title. I don’t want to belittle Tiago Moises. I really believe Tiago Moises is much better than his last fight with Drew Dober. I think he’s better and tougher than Drew Dober as a fighter. It’s not easy to finish Tiago Moises on the ground. But I think next year [Makhachev] struggles [for the title]and he can be a champion for at least two or three years. ”

Maxachev joined the UFC in 2015 after starting his MMA career with a score of 11: 0, mostly fighting under the M-1 flag. After winning his first fight in the UFC, he was impressed by Adriano Martins ’KO in UFC 192.

Since then, he hasn’t lost in seven of the last five years. Recently, Maxachev defeated Drew Dober at UFC 292. Prior to that win, he defeated Davi Ramos at UFC 242.
