If an awards show passes without any press, spectators, or A-lists crossing the red carpet, has that happened at all?

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association said on Tuesday that the 2022 Golden Globe will continue with its regular participants.

As the Omicron COVID-19 voltage rises, the association is changing its personal rituals. Now neither the press nor celebrities are invited to the 79th season awards ceremony, which will take place without spectators.

The announcement comes a few days before the show’s scheduled date, January 9, 2022.

This year’s Globes will only allow “selected members and grant recipients” and will require a number of additional restrictions, including a vaccination certificate, a booster shot, and a negative PCR test within 48 hours of the event.

And, “there will be no red carpet,” the association announced. According to the press release, all guests must be masked and “always in the ballroom” at a social distance.

There is no mention of a live broadcast or any other virtual way of setting up the release.

Well-known starters will also be missing at Sunday’s ceremony, although their omission is not related to COVID: Sources tell Variety that no stars have agreed to participate in the Globe, due to the HFPA’s recent diversity scandal. NBC has canceled its annual awards after the HFPA was accused of corruption and lack of black members.

In response, the publication notes, “HFPA has completely revised its charter to include a comprehensive code of ethics and conduct, top-down, focusing on diversity, equality and inclusion, governance, membership and more. made changes. In October, HFPA adopted its largest and most diverse class with 21 new journalists, all of whom were first-time Golden Globe voters.

In this weekend’s program, NAACP Hollywood Bureau Senior Vice President Kyle Bowzer will discuss a five-year diversity initiative called the Reimagine Coalition. The project is a collaborative effort between HFPA and NAACP to fund and support “projects by artists of different racial and ethnic backgrounds”.
