The next UFC lightweight championship fight was known for a few months, but now we have a date.
ESPN correspondent Brett Okamoto new champion Glover Teixeira lined up to fight Jiri Prochazka at UFC 274 on May 7, it was reported on Saturday.
Teixeira (33-7) made history by introducing Jan Blahovic in the UFC 267 major tournament last October. Not only did he pursue his goal of winning the UFC championship, but at the age of 42, he became the oldest champion in UFC history. Teixeira had previously fought for the belt in 2013 and lost to John Jones. He would have predicted another blow eight years later. Glover is currently winning six fights, his last defeat being in July 2018 against Corey Anderson.
Prochazka (28-3-1) is a former RIZIN FF welterweight champion who came to the UFC with a lot of hype after all his success in Japan. The Czech knockout made an important statement in his octagon debut when he knocked out Volkan Oezdemir at UFC 251 in Abu Dhabi. He rose to the status of the main event in his next (and most recent) fight, with KO with Dominic Reyes ’great elbow less than a minute before the end of Round 2. Two fights, two knockouts over former championship contenders and now he gets the championship kick.
UFC 274 venue or venue has not been determined.
