By Sean Jones: A fight between unbeaten middleweight champion Jermael Charlo and Demetrius Andrade is likely between them according to promoter Eddie Hearn.

The chances of Hearn putting up a fight between WBC 160-lb winners Charlo and Andrade, 32, are unfortunately not good. Although Andrade will take the fight in a second, Jermal is still hesitant and risk averse.

Ever since he first signed him, the matchroom boxing boss has been trying to put up a big fight for his fighter Andrade (30-0, 18 KOs), but he’s got no takers.

Hearn says Showtime’s Stephen Espinoza said WBC 160-lb champion Jermael Charlo (32-0, 22 KO) is not tied to his network and that he can fight for other platforms.

Needless to say, this news made Hearn happy as he now believes that nothing is stopping him from doing a unification fight between Charlo and WBO 160-lb champion Andrade.

The only thing that can stop the fight from happening is Charlo because he needs a fight. If Charlo is reluctant to fight Andrade for whatever reason, it won’t matter that Showtime is giving him the green light to confront him.

“I saw Stephen Espinoza yesterday saying you know that Charloe wasn’t tied to Showtime, and That won’t stop him from taking that fight elsewhere. That was music to our ears,” Hearn said. DAZN Boxing Show.

“But at the same time. We are not tying up, and DAZN will not connect Andrade to DAZN if that fight presents itself because you have to let these guys fight fights like this,” Hearn said.

No matter what, Showtime isn’t going to be an obstacle for Jarmel to fight Demetrius.

Just as 32-year-old Charlo was talking about the idea of fighting Andrade at his post-fight press conference on June 19 last month, he didn’t seem excited about facing him.

When Germal was asked about potentially fighting Andrade, he gave the reasons why the fight could not take place:

  • Network
  • Promoters
  • Andrade being a “terrible fighter”
  • nobody knows andrade

Germal ends his rant about why he cannot fight Andrade, saying that he needs to defeat Montiel before he can even consider fighting him. This handicap made it clear that Andrade would never get a fight against Charlo, no matter what he did.

“Charlo has to be careful that he doesn’t start fighting to that level, and that’s because he’s a fantastic fighter,” Hearn recently said of Germal’s fight against Juan Macias Montiel on June 19.

“So, when you’re Charlo, you have to be careful not to become nearly like Terence Crawford and keep taking these fights that’s really gonna lower your value,Hearn said.

You could argue that Charlo is already reducing his value by fighting less opposition than he has been doing since he moved up to the 160-lb division in 2017.

Even before Germal reached 160, he faced not very talented opposition in 154.

Julian ‘J-Rock’ Williams and Austin Trout were the only two talented fighters to fight Charlo during his nine years at junior middleweight.

Except for Sergei Derevenchenko, the only people he’s fought with since Charlo moved to 160 are the ho-hum people.

Gennady Golovkin defeated Derevyanchenko in his last fight and took a lot from him.

Demetrius Andrade Germale Charlo

Battle of Charloe at 160:

  • Matt Korobov
  • George Sebastian Heyland
  • Hugo Centeno
  • Dennis Hogan
  • Juan Macias Montiel
  • Brandon Adams

With the decent money that Charlo is getting from Showtime to fight the no-name protest, you can understand why he wouldn’t want to drain his oil well.

The way Charlo is getting paid well to compete against lesser opposition on Showtime, there’s no reason to spoil things and lose by fighting a good opponent like Andrade.

Those good payouts from Showtime will disappear if Charlo gets beaten up by Andrade.
