Former Rep. Allen West launches GOP main test against Texas Gov. Greg Abbott

Allen West announced his candidacy for Texas governor on Sunday, saying he could no longer “sit outside,” and began a key mission against Republican Gov. Greg Abbott.

The outgoing Texas GOP chair – a controversial and outspoken former congressman in Florida – made the announcement in a video of a fireplace he played during a July 4 speech at Sojourn Church in Carrollton, Texas.

TEXAS GOV. ABBOTT visited the wall bordering TRUMP as it became the largest thorn on the side of the BIDEN

“There will come a time when a fighter will probably realize he needs to go back and draw that sword,” said West, who served in the Gulf War and the Iraq war before serving as a lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army. . “I’m pulling my sword now.”

“I haven’t been in an elected political position in ten years. But I can no longer sit outside and see what is happening in the United States, in what I call home,” he said. lon did.

And he noted that he is running for “Lone Star State to be your governor so we can protect and defend our home.”

“I couldn’t think of a better place and a better day to post this ad,” West told other colleagues after the video ended. “Let’s stand up for God, for the country, and for Texas.”

WHY DOES JULY 4 HAVE SUCH SPECIAL MEANINGS FOR ALLEN WEST?

The political movement is not surprising. The West announced its resignation from the presidency a month ago, signaling that it was seeking a state-wide position.

The West, which has made unusual moves in its vocal criticism of the Abbott because of the governor’s efforts to fight the coronavirus as Texas’s GOP chairman, has become the second Republican politician to reject Abbott from the right after former state Sen. Don Huffines.

Former state Attorney General Abbott will run Texas for a third four-year term next year.

The governor is constantly in the headlines of the first month. He signed into law bills restricting the teaching of critical racing theory in his state and allowing Texas to carry weapons without a license. By order of the governor – the legislature will return to a special session this month on legislation that will strengthen the rules for allowing voting – another priority for the GOP this month.

The governor also stepped up security measures on his state’s border with Mexico and vowed to end the construction of a border wall that began under former President Trump’s administration, as the number of immigrants crossing the border has increased this year. Last week, he joined Trump and received national headlines at an event on the unfinished part of the Texas border wall. Earlier this year, Trump approved Abbott’s re-election proposal in 2022.

Some Republicans in Texas say Abbott’s muscle movements were an attempt to protect his right wing, after angry Texas Conservatives fired a large number of fires last year because of his masked mandates and COVID-19 restrictions on businesses. And earlier this year, the governor refused to deal with the state’s devastating winter storm, which led to a power outage that resulted in millions of Texans freezing to unusually cold temperatures.

David Carney, a longtime political adviser to Abbott, insisted that truck policy was not the driving force behind the activity scandal.

“We paid zero attention to all the conversations,” Carney told Acesparks last week. “We’re 100% sure where the Republican primary voters are. We’re not worried about the primary election at all. It’s a ridiculous season in Texas because the legislative session is over and a lot of people are dreaming a lot.”
