The Food and Drug Administration said it would stop regulating French clothing after it tightly controlled its key ingredients since the 1950s.

On Wednesday, the U.S. agency announced it would repeal instructions requiring manufacturers to sell a product that contains 35% vegetable oil as a “French garment”.

Also, the French dress had to have vinegar or lemon or lime juice. Other ingredients such as salt, tomato paste and spices are allowed, but not required.

The FDA said the strict limit no longer “promotes honesty and fair treatment” in the interests of consumers.

By removing the standard, the FDA hopes to “provide more flexibility in producing a product that is comparable to the comparable, non-standardized food products available on the market.”

The move came in response to a 1998 petition filed by the Dress and Sauce Association. It is unknown why the FDA has been waiting recently to appeal the group’s petition.

The FDA has been regulating the French clothing and other food range for decades.

The trade group notes that the FDA’s strict guidelines stifle innovation, leaving consumers with limited opportunities in the market.

According to the ADS, customers looking for a low-fat or fat-free version of the spice were unlucky because these products could not be legally sold as “French clothing”.

The group was also interested in why French clothing was inspected and other clothing was not inspected.

In a statement, the ADS said it “supports” the FDA decision.

Since the adoption of the standard, non-standardized, with a variety of flavors (e.g., Italian, blue cheese, vinaigrette, ranch, Caesar) and ingredients (including low-fat, “light”), can be poured The wide range of salad sauces available has increased. and non-greasy clothing), ”the trade group said in a statement.

“As the French dressing standard changes its composition to meet the changing needs of consumers, it does not serve as a criterion for pouring salads. As a result, the French dressing standard simply limits innovation.”

Now that the guidelines have been repealed, French clothing manufacturers can choose to add or remove vegetable oil or tomato paste if it is safe for consumers.

Depending on American taste, the decision to dress in French has little effect on trade. A 2017 ADS survey showed that rancho spices are the most preferred spice. The second most popular dress was Italian.

For decades, the FDA has regulated other foods such as mayonnaise, vanilla extract, and frozen cherry pie.

Rules governing the sale of food products, including milk and cottage cheese, were established decades ago by the federal government to ensure quality.

As part of its 2018 Nutrition Innovation Strategy, the FDA said in a statement on its website that it was “considering what can be done to reduce preventable deaths and malnutrition-related diseases.” said it was reconsidering its control.

The FDA also regulates other foods such as mayonnaise and vanilla extract. The FDA defines mayonnaise as at least 65% by weight of vegetable oil. Vanilla extract could only be sold if it contained at least 35% ethyl alcohol by volume.

During the Trump administration, FDA officials proposed repealing regulations governing the classification of frozen cherry pies.

According to the rules of frozen cherry pie, which have existed for decades, they should be 25% cherries by weight, no more than 15% of cherries should have stains.
