Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said schools will be open to private study across the state, regardless of the number of students who have tested positive for COVID-19 after the winter break.

At a news conference in Jacksonville on Tuesday, DeSantis discussed his plan to prioritize home testing for the elderly and others at risk for the disease. His approach came at a time when the Biden administration was working on conducting free tests at home for all Americans.

Gov. Florida Surgeon General Joseph Ladapo noted in September how he changed policies to prevent healthy children from becoming infected with COVID-19 or dropping out of school for weeks at the beginning of the school year. Instead, only symptomatic children are sent home.

“Our schools will open in Florida. If you look at the data collected during the entire illness, you will get worse results by closing schools,” DeSantis told a news conference Monday. “And that would be very harmful. The kids have to be in school.”

“Tenants need to make sure they can send their children to school,” the governor said, noting that schools have not caused a wave of the virus in St. Petersburg. “Our universities will be open, our public universities, they teach in person. I think any university that doesn’t do that has to pay back one hundred percent of the tuition.”

DeSantis noted that school closures in other parts of the country, such as Chicago and Portland, Oregon, have occurred mainly in working-class areas, and that measures to return students to distance learning further undermine the right to education due to safety and behavioral issues. . for their children.

On Tuesday, Ladapo identified the difference between testing for clinical treatment and changing the outcome of a disease, and a waste of resources – for example, travel requirements, returning to work or school, or because someone was affected but no risk factors or symptoms. q.

The newly appointed state surgeon, General Dr. Joseph Ladapo, will speak at a press conference at the Neo City Academy in Kissimmee, Florida.

“It’s a fantasy that the federal leadership thought they could somehow stop this epidemic by conducting more tests – I expect more people to understand, it completely failed,” Ladapo said. “Now there are reports that all those closures and quarantines are harming children. And it’s a shame … It’s unacceptable. And we’re stopping it in Florida.”

Florida is under pressure to allow the federal government to buy more monoclonal antibody treatments. “When you have a free society like Florida, you can choose to be more cautious,” DeSantis said Tuesday, adding that he doesn’t mind taking the test for those who listen to Dr. Anthony Fauci’s instructions, but doesn’t want to live at the same time. “biomedical condition.” He rejected vaccine mandates that cost the work of firefighters, law enforcement, or nurses, as in New York and elsewhere.

He said he is also opposed to the vaccine mandates proposed for children to attend public school.

Universal mask mandates are banned nationwide in schools in Florida – some rents for children with special needs are fighting a federal lawsuit. Some school districts in the state are measuring the legitimacy of returning mask requirements as they fight the spread of the omicron variant.
