Texas Democratic lawmakers have been sharply criticized on social media for a photo of a masked and smiling man on a plane flying to Washington to try to block a Republican vote on the bill.
“The rules for you, but not for me, the Democrats are fighting again. Hey, @TSA, if this Democratic lawmaker is allowed to fly without a mask, Americans should do the same. Follow science, not politics,” said Republican Byron. Donalds tweeted in response to the photo.
More than 50 Texas Democrats fled the state on private jets on Monday to prevent a Republican-backed voter integrity bill from being considered in a special legislative session.

Masks are only required on commercial aircraft by President Joe Biden’s January order, but some private airlines it also requires wearing a mask on flights.
Critics were quick to accuse Democrats of hypocrisy in wearing a mask in the photo, and also argued that lawmakers must show an identity card to board a plane, a method of identification that many Democrats oppose when voting.
The Texas Democrats demonstrated the bill for a second time and left the state House of Representatives without a quorum to pass the bill. However, the withdrawal will not allow Democrats to permanently block legislation.
“Today, Texas House Democrats are unanimous in our decision to refuse to allow a Republican-led legislature through dangerous laws that violate our quorum and trample on Texans’ freedom to vote, ”several Texas lawmakers said Monday.
“Now we will take the struggle to the Capitol of our nation,” they added. “We live in a time borrowed in Texas. We need Congress to work now to protect the Peoples Act and John Lewis Act on Voting Rights – Texans and all Americans – from Trump Republicans’ nationwide war against democracy.”
TEXAS ‘ABBOTT SAYS HE WILL BE ARRESTED FOR RETURNING DEMONS WHO “LEFT” THE ELECTION STATE
Gov. Greg Abbott said Democrats who fled the state will be arrested when they return to Texas.
“When they return to the state, they will be arrested and returned to the Capitol and we will do business,” he said Monday.
