Should the Chiefs defeat the Bengals in Sunday’s AFC Championship game, Kansas City faithful wants Brittany Matthews to break out the bubbly.
Ahead of the kickoff, the fiancée of Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes revealed that Chiefs fans would welcome a champagne shower from one of Kansas City’s biggest fans amid the recent criticism she’s endured.
In a video posted to her Instagram Story, one Chiefs fan held up a poster that read, “Let’s spray some more champagne #TeamBritt,” while another sign read, “Ready for a champagne shower Team Brittany.”
“The best fans in the NFL said enough,” Matthews wrote in the caption.
Matthews went viral on social media last week after spraying champagne from her suite following the Chiefs ’epic divisional round win against the Bills. Matthews took a positive approach in response to the backlash, creating “Team Brittany” shirts with plans to donate the proceeds to an anti-bullying charity in Kansas City.
“There has been quite a bit of buzz this week and it’s been a pretty rough week over here,” Matthews said Thursday on her Instagram Story. “However, me and my team have decided to try to turn this buzz into something and something good for the Kansas City community.”
For Sunday’s game, Matthews appears to be surrounded by her nearest and dearest, including 11-month-old daughter Sterling, whom she welcomed with Mahomes last February. She also posed on the sideline with Jackson Mahomes, the younger brother of Kansas City’s quarterback.
