On Friday, Brendon Nimmo calculated his life as he boarded a bus from Citi Field to Yankee Stadium.
The Mets midfielder, who has been on the injured list for two months, wanted to return as the team’s leader in the Metro series and took some time to reflect on what was happening.
“Thank you so much for that,” Nimmo said outside the guest house at Yankee Stadium. “Sometimes you get so wrapped up in it that you forget how horrible it was, and I think that injury showed me how blessed I was to know what I was doing again.
“I have to come here. I’m starting to work and play at Yankee Stadium and City Field, so I’m so grateful to be here and to be healthy and able to play. “
Nimmo last played for the Mets on May 2. He was placed in IL with a left arm injury three days later and was eventually diagnosed with a torn ligament. The discovery relieved Nimmo, who initially said he had suffered nervous damage.

In mid-May, he was shut down at Triple-A Syracuse due to discomfort in his arm during a rehabilitation assignment. Nimmo walked without shaking the bat for more than five weeks.
“It wasn’t just a few months out, but it didn’t shake the bitch for six weeks,” Nimmo said.
Prior to the injury, Nimmo was one of the team’s few regular strikers. He came into the game with a .318 / .430 / .439 lineup with one homer and eight RBIs. His return means less playing time for Kevin Pillar, who took on most of the central field duties in Nimmo’s absence.
Nimmo’s return also allowed manager Luis Roxas to move struggling Jeff McNeill to 6th place in the beating order.
“I’m very happy with that [Nimmo] He is back, everything he does is not only offensive but also defensive, ”said Rojas. “He’s really improved defensively, but right now it’s an offense, I can tell you that I’m very excited, the ability to access the base and just the ability to make a quality sequence of bats because I think he’s a man who can achieve anything. Rallies for us and I think that’s what we need, we haven’t been able to do that in the last few days. “
