Bode Miller and his wife Morgan Beck have a bit of a dilemma.
The 44-year-old Olympic skier and 34-year-old professional volleyball player are having a hard time choosing a name for their 7-week-old daughter.
“When you give birth at home, you don’t have to name the baby right away,” Savanna Gutri told the couple on Wednesday’s Today show. “When you give birth in a hospital, you have to fill out a birth certificate, otherwise they won’t let you go.”
Miller explained that choosing a name for a newborn is “difficult” because they try to “get used” to his changing personality.
“He has amazed us with names so far,” he added. “We have a lot of things we like, but when we told him he didn’t smile, didn’t call or say anything else, and we always tell him.”
Beck shared with his “pre-runners” that the names were “Skyler, Scarlett, call her Letti, or Olivia, call her Liv.” Each type has a different meaning [them]. So we may have to contact our subscribers on social media and ask for help because it is not responding to us much. ”
Beck already shares 7-year-old Edward, 3-year-old Iston and twins Asher and 2-year-old Axel Miller.
Miller is a “huge fan of Liv” and he joked on the talk show: “It’s a little nervous to be one of the most popular names this year, because most of our kids’ names aren’t very popular. But we’re sure we won’t let that stop us.”
Nesin, 13, of New Hampshire, and Samuel, 8, are the fathers of their sons from a past relationship. He and Beck were the parents of their daughter, Emeline Grier, who died after a tragic drowning in 2018.
He then spoke openly about the memory of his late daughter.
“Emmy was a great balance because she was so strong and then when she passed, it was amazing because you really felt that energetic shift at home,” Miller said. “Obviously we all and everything suffered, but there was space here for all the kids. And now they have this little girl. It just makes them soft. You’ll be amazed.”
Miller and Beck welcomed their sixth child together last month. The two called their daughter “Ocho” because it is the Spanish word for “eight” because she is the eighth child in the family.
Beck also took to his Instagram account on Wednesday to ask his followers for help in choosing a name. He also chose “Olivia” as his father’s name and asked for a second father’s name: “Khione” or “Grier”.
If parents decide not to name their newborn, hospitals will write the words “Babygirl” or “Babyboy” instead of the birth certificate. Parents can change the name once they have decided on a title.
