Big E suffered a broken neck during a match on SmackDown back in March. Since then, the New Day member shared a disappointing update. One of the vertebrae involved in the injury is not healing as expected.

The former WWE Champion noted that his neck would have to stay in a brace for an additional four to six weeks. Big E is hoping to avoid a spinal fusion surgery. That would set back his recovery even further.

In this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer discussed Big E’s path to recovery. If he does have to have fusion surgery, it could mean an additional six to fifteen months on the shelf. Meltzer said that type of procedure usually falls closer to a year of rehab and recovery.

“Big E released news that his C-1 vertebrae is not healing as well as hoped for. He will remain in a neck brace for the next four to six weeks with the hope things get better and he can avoid neck fusion surgery. Depending on the type of surgery they would do, fusion surgery could mean anywhere from six to about 15 months on the shelf but usually is more than a year. ”

Big E has remained in high spirits as he recovers from the devastating accident. As always, he has remained his cheerful, positive self. The WWE Universe returned that positivity in kind with a massive show of support.

If Big E does require surgery, his recovery time would be greatly extended. His health comes first, and with an injury this severe, there is no reason to rush anything. Whatever the outcome, everybody at Acesparks is pulling for Big E to make a complete recovery.
