AEW Still Figuring Out Thunder Rosa’s Next Challenger

Thunder Rosa has been trying to gain traction as AEW Women’s World Champion. She issued an open challenge on this week’s Dynamite that was answered by Marina Shafir. Rosa was successful in that bout, and many are wondering who else could emerge to take a shot at the belt.

There was some tension teased between Thunder Rosa and Toni Storm after the match with Shafir. That seems likely to happen at some point. Tony Khan is also considering bringing in one of Japan’s top Joshi stars for a program with Rosa.

In the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer noted that Miyu Yamashita has been impressive during her matches on AEW Dark and Elevation. The Tokyo Joshi Pro Wrestling star held that the organization’s most prestigious championship for a combined 1,065 days. Her resume and good ring work may earn her a run with Thunder Rosa.

“After she did so well in streaming matches, there is talk of doing an AEW title match with Thunder Rosa vs. Miyu Yamashita. ”

There has been plenty of criticism thrown around regarding AEW’s women’s division. Many feel Thunder Rosa has had good matches, but has not had a chance to shine during her run with the title. Yamashita would offer a fresh face, and if introduced properly would have a chance at a very good feud with Rosa.

Time will tell if Tony Khan pulls the trigger on a Thunder Rosa vs Miyu Yamashita world title match. With Toni Storm waiting in the wings, Rosa could be busy for the foreseeable future. A solid series of matches would go a long way towards getting her title reign on track.
