Jesse D, one of the founders Strong MDs, died yesterday (February 4), the group confirmed on its official Facebook page.

The star, whose real name is Jesse Lee Daniels, was 58 years old. The cause of death has not yet been confirmed.

Daniels co-founded Force MDs in 1981 in Staten Island, New York, with his nephews Stevie D, Antoine TCD Lundy and Rodney Khalil Lundi along with Trisco Pearson and Charles Mercury Nelson. The band combined R&B, du-vop, hip-hop and bitboxing in their voices and were the pioneers of the new jack swing movement.

Two of the band’s biggest hits are “Tender Love” from 1985, which appeared on their second album, “Chillin,” and the film’s soundtrack. Krush Groove. He finished 10th on the Billboard Hot 100 list and remained on the chart for 19 weeks. In 1987, Love Is A House, the third album on Touch & Go, became the number one song on the Billboard R&B charts.

In 1996, Force MDs also partnered Ghostface Killah, appeared on the rapper’s debut album “Ironman”. Their vocals have appeared on the tracks “Daytona 500”, “Box In Hand” and “The Soul Controller”.

He was honored after the news of Daniels’ death. “Another legend enters its phase as a musical ancestor” Questlove in a long Instagram post.

“It’s probably the only outfit that managed to make the transition from the first stage of hip-hop (look for the legendary routines from 82-85 tapes on YouTube) to the mainstream,” he added of Force MDs. “They came from your school, they had to do it all: MC / DJ / fight / dance routines / comedy / know your history (novel idea yes?) / Croon / harmonize & engage / energize.”

“Jesse’s passion for singing with a big smile and laughter will never be forgotten!” pioneer rapper MC Debbie D wrote. “It was so nice to share scenes like Garlem World with you and Force!”

DJ Mr. Si added: “Jessie D and the band have put Staten Island NY on the map era !!! She will be missed.”
