A Miami-Dade County grand jury is looking at ways to prevent a catastrophe similar to the collapse of a condominium building that killed dozens of people last month and raised concerns about the structural integrity of apartment buildings in the area. rib comes out.

In a statement issued Wednesday, District Attorney Catherine Fernandes Rundle said she had asked Nel until the end of a long-running investigation into the cause of the June 24 collapse of the Champlain Towers South building in Surfside.

“As a community, we are shocked and horrified that so many people have died and the devastation caused by the collapse of the Champlain Towers South Condominium building,” Fernandez Rundl said. “The members of the Grand Jury enthusiastically agreed to accept this claim and voted to conduct such an investigation.”

Nel discusses how to prevent a similar phenomenon in all buildings and structures “in the coastal, coastal, and surrounding areas of our county, state, and nation”.

Senior judges in Miami-Dade County typically have two functions: issuing criminal indictments and examining public health and safety issues. Miami Herald reported. Fernandes Rundl said the large reports from board members often led to much-needed reforms.

He noted that building regulations have been tightened since Hurricane Andrew in 1992.

The Surfside crash sparked a major search and rescue effort. Over the weekend, the rest of the structure was demolished and officials moved from a search-and-rescue operation to a rescue mission.

Officials on Wednesday, it removed the bodies of another 18 people from the rubble, bringing the death toll to at least 54, with more than 80 people still unaccounted for.

A number of lawsuits and criminal and civil investigations have been launched to obtain answers.

And at least five lawsuits have been filed on behalf of residents who survived or feared death. A lawyer who was involved in the lawsuits said the collapse raises broad concerns about infrastructure problems and our confidence in those responsible for them.
