The Florentine lawmaker was arrested by law enforcement in Pensacola on Tuesday and was wounded in the shooting.
Escambia County Sheriff Chip Simmons said an unnamed lawmaker was kicked in the leg. The deputy was admitted to the district hospital and his injuries are not life-threatening.
“He will probably be accepted and stay overnight for observation,” Simmons told reporters during a press conference.

The shooting took place at around 19:00 in the 3200 block of La Rua Street, where members of the ECSO Armed Crimes Unit were searching for a suspect in the murder in the Pensacola area.
Simmons said that when deputies questioned a man who had nothing to do with the murder investigation, he got into his belt and started “shaking.”
The scandal erupted after the deputy tried to figure out what the man was doing. Police said the man then took a gun and shot the deputy in the leg.
The deputy shot and killed the man.
“We would have hoped it would never happen,” Simmons added, “but we know it’s not true.”
